Ohr Chana High School cultivates thoughtful, confident, and spiritually grounded young women who live with Torah, purpose, Middot Tovot and integrity. In every Judaic studies class, from Chumash and Navi to Ketuvim, Halacha, Tefila, Jewish Women, Chassidut, and Jewish History, our young women are encouraged to think, question, analyze, and internalize. Our General Studies program provides students with academic skills, intellectual confidence, and real-world competencies they need to thrive in college, careers, and life. Through meaningful learning in literature, history, mathematics, science, technology, and the arts, students learn to think critically, communicate clearly, and approach challenges with curiosity and confidence.

Learning is interactive, relevant, and student-centered. Classes emphasize discussion, problem-solving, collaboration, and application, helping students understand not only what they are learning, but why it matters. 12th grade Committees

In 12th grade, every student is part of a committee that allows her to shine in her own unique way. The committees include but are not limited to GO, Chesed, Emunah, Ahavat Yisrael, Events, Tech, Birthday, Yearbook, and Production. Each group plays an important role in enhancing school life and creating memorable experiences for everyone. These committees provide students the opportunity to take on leadership roles, show responsibility, and work together to plan and organize events related to their specific area. With the guidance of dedicated program directors, the students collaborate, use their talents, and contribute to making the senior year special and meaningful for the entire High School.

Chesed & Community Engagement

Our students are encouraged to open their hearts, lend a helping hand, and make a difference in the community. Through our Chesed Program, acts of kindness become a meaningful part of the school experience. Throughout the year, the students connect what they learn in the classroom to real-life opportunities to give back. Lessons of Torah and compassion come to life, whether it’s learning about Shabbat and preparing meals for families in need, or using their skills from a baking class to share homemade cookies with the community or run bake sales for global Chesed initiatives. Each project reminds our students that giving to others is one of the greatest ways to grow.

Trips & Shabbatons

At our school, students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of trips, Shabbatons, and events that enhance both their academic and personal growth. One highlight is the 4-day Shabbaton for the entire high school, which brings everyone together for a meaningful and immersive Shabbat experience. In addition, each grade enjoys its own Shabbaton, giving students a chance to connect with peers and experience Shabbat in a more intimate, grade-specific setting.

Trips are another important part of school life, ranging from fun excursions like Kalahari or snow tubing to academic and curriculum-connected trips. For example, students may visit the OU when studying kashrut or explore Touro College to learn about life after high school. These experiences combine learning, fun, and community, helping students grow socially, spiritually, and academically while building lasting memories.

Production

Production plays a vital role in bringing creativity and talent to life at our school, and all students have the opportunity to be involved. Everyone contributes in some way, whether through acting, singing, stage design, lighting, sound, or other aspects of the performance. Some elective classes, like Drama and Music, help prepare students with the skills and knowledge needed to create an incredible show. Production teaches leadership, collaboration, and responsibility, as students work together to ensure every detail is perfect and the performance runs smoothly. The entire community is welcome to attend and enjoy the show, making it a shared celebration of talent and creativity. Through Production, all students help create memorable experiences while developing confidence and teamwork.

Chumash

From the very beginning, our students understand that Torah learning is not simply an academic subject, it is a living connection to Hashem. Every word of Torah carries Kedusha and meaning, and Chazal teach that each word of Torah is a Name of Hashem, shaping our Neshama and our Avodat Hashem. With this awareness, our students approach Chumash learning with palpable motivation, devotion and a spirit of studying Torah Lishma, grounded in the belief of:

כִּי קָרוֹב אֵלֶיךָ הַדָּבָר מְאֹד, בְּפִיךָ וּבִלְבָבְךָ לַעֲשֹׂתוֹ
“For the matter is very close to you, in your mouth and in your heart, to fulfill it.” (Devarim 30:14)

In our Chumash program, students explore the Torah’s teachings through a balance of text mastery and meaningful understanding. We emphasize core Chumash skills, including, reading, translating, analyzing Rashi, delving into Mefarshim, asking thoughtful questions, and making real-life applications. The hands-on approach we use stimulates both comprehension and a personal connection to Torah, enabling our students to learn with confidence and independence.

Our curriculum is thoughtfully leveled, enabling every student to learn at her own pace and reach her fullest potential. These levels are further supported by Lomdei, an interactive learning platform that provides individualized skill practice and guided feedback.

Through this learning, our students grow not only in knowledge, but also in inspiration, character, commitment to living Torah with joy and purpose, and to one day teach Torah in their own homes, fulfilling the promise of וְשִׁנַּנְתָּם לְבָנֶיךָ, וְדִבַּרְתָּ בָּם בְּשִׁבְתְּךָ בְּבֵיתֶךָ, וּבְלֶכְתְּךָ בַדֶּרֶךְ, וּבְשָׁכְבְּךָ וּבְקֻמֶךָ.

Navi / Ketuvim

In our Navi and Ketuvim program, students uncover the inspiring messages and life lessons found within the words of our Nevi’im and Ketuvim. Each Sefer is studied with an eye toward the values it teaches - Emunah, kindness, leadership, and a deep sense of connection to Hashem. Through engaging discussions and meaningful insights, the students reflect on their own lives and see how the experiences and teachings of our prophets and sages guide us in building strong character and living with purpose.

To internalize these lessons, students crystallize their learning through creative expression, including role plays, skits, poetry, reflective writing, infomercials, and collaborative presentations. These activities allow students to bring the stories and messages of Navi to life in personal and memorable ways, guiding students to embody the verse, “בְּכָל דְּרָכֶיךָ דָעֵהוּ” (Mishlei 3:6) — “Know Him in all your ways.”

The lessons of Navi and Ketuvim help students recognize that Torah values are ever-relevant and practical, offering direction and inspiration for their daily lives as proud Bnot Yisrael.

Halacha

In our Halacha program, students learn to understand and appreciate how Torah values guide their everyday lives. Over their high school journey, they cover practical Halachot that help them live as true Bnot Yisrael in their daily lives. Before each Yom Tov, students learn the relevant Halachot of the Chag so they can celebrate with understanding and meaning.

All Halachot are taught according to Sefaradi tradition, and students are provided with clear sources for everything they learn, helping them develop skills to study Halacha independently. Lessons are brought to life with real-world examples and hands-on demonstrations, student-centered culminating events and much more, allowing students to see how Halacha applies to everyday situations.

כִּי עַם קָדוֹשׁ אַתָּה לַה׳ אֱלֹקֶיךָ “For you are a holy people to Hashem” (Devarim 14:2). This is the heart of our Halacha program: helping students understand not only what we do and how we live as an Am Kadosh, but why. In this way, Halacha becomes deeply personal, a source of identity, belonging and joy, shaping both daily choices and lifelong connection

Jewish Womanhood & Personal Growth

In 11th and 12th grade, our Jewish Women course invites students to understand and embrace their identity as Bnot Yisrael with confidence and pride. Through thoughtful discussions and exploration of Torah sources, students consider what it means to live as a Jewish woman in today’s world while remaining deeply grounded in Torah values, internalizing the calling of “בנים אתם לה׳ אלקיכם” (Devarim 14:1) and striving to live as role models of dignity, depth, and purpose.

The class emphasizes personal growth, self-awareness, inner refinement, healthy interpersonal relationships, and the development of values and principles anchored in Torah. Students gain practical guidance and inspiration for building a Jewish home and creating an atmosphere filled with Kedushah, Chesed, Simchah, and purpose.

This course prepares our graduates to step into the next stage of their lives with a strong sense of identity, belonging, and mission, deeply connected to the beauty and responsibility of being a Bat Yisrael, and equipped to live it with true עוֹז וְהָדָר לְבוּשָׁה — “Strength and dignity are her clothing.” (Mishlei 31:25).

Hashkafa

In our Hashkafa class, students explore the foundational ideas and values that shape a Torah way of life. The class is interactive and discussion-based, with students encouraged to raise questions and engage topics that spark their curiosity and interest. Lessons often take the form of guided Q&A, allowing students to think deeply, explore multiple perspectives, and strengthen their understanding and connection to their Avodat Hashem.

Each concept is examined in primary Torah sources, giving students clarity, confidence, and a sense of authenticity in what they know and believe. Through open dialogue and thoughtful guidance, students develop a strong, personal appreciation for their faith and learn how to apply Torah values meaningfully and proudly in the world around them, embracing their identity as an עַם סְגֻלָּה , “a treasured people to Hashem your G-D” ( Devarim 7:6).

Parshat Hashavuah

In our Parashat Hashavua class, students explore the weekly Torah portion in a way that brings its stories and messages to life. Each week, they identify the central themes of the parsha and focus on selected passages that highlight lessons in Emunah, Middot Tovot, and connection to Hashem. Through discussion and study of Mefarshim, students uncover insights that are both inspiring and practical, ideas they can share meaningfully at their Shabbat tables.

Students also extract the Asei and Lo Ta’aseh mitzvot from each parsha and record them in their own 613 Mitzvot notebook, with full sources, explanations, and inspirational reflections. This ongoing project deepens their connection to each mitzvah and helps them understand Halacha as something rooted, real, and personal.

In addition, students journey through the Pardes of Torah, beginning with P’shat and moving into Remez, Derash, and Sod, exploring the inner dimension of Torah through “points of light,” Gematriot, and other layers of depth. These discoveries spark the Neshamah and help students experience Torah as the blueprint of their soul, relevant, living, and illuminating their daily lives.

תּוֹרַת ה׳ תְּמִימָה מְשִׁיבַת נָפֶשׁ

“The Torah of Hashem is perfect, restoring the soul.” (Tehilim 19:8)

Jewish History

In our Jewish History program, 11th and 12th grade students study key historical periods and events in Jewish History, including Inquisitions and Expulsions, the Age of Enlightenment, the Holocaust. Through stories, discussion, and reflection, they gain a deeper understanding of our Jewish people’s strength, resilience, and unwavering faith of the Jewish people during that time. The lessons of this course inspire students to carry the memory forward, apply lessons to today’s challenges and live with pride, unity, and a strong sense of Jewish identity.

As part of this learning, students also study the lives of Tzadikim across time, celebrating their Hilulot and exploring the countries, communities, and cultural landscapes in which they lived. This approach allows students to see Jewish history not only as a timeline, but as as a living legacy of identity, heritage, and spiritual continuity, guided by the teaching of מַעֲשֵׂה אָבוֹת סִימָן לַבָּנִים
“The deeds of our ancestors are a guide for their children” (Bereishit Rabbah 70:6).

Yediot Klaliyot

Our Yediot Klaliyot program builds core Torah knowledge, including Halacha in daily living, Jewish values and principles, the Chagim, the Jewish calendar and the life cycle. This foundation ensures that students develop a strong and confident grounding in living a meaningful Jewish life. Focused reinforcement and spiraled review further ensure that students build lasting knowledge that will support their continued learning across all Judaic studies disciplines.

This strong based of knowledge allows any student, whether new to Torah learning or already experienced, to anchor and contextualize her Judaic studies with clarity, depth, and confidence, כִּי הֵם חַיֵּינוּ וְאֹרֶךְ יָמֵינוּ, “For they are our life and the length of our days.”

Ivrit

In our Ivrit program, students develop confidence and fluency in the four key language skills: speaking, reading, writing, and listening. The curriculum is designed to help students use Hebrew as a living language, enabling them to communicate comfortably, naturally, and with genuine connection.

Through conversation-based learning, modern texts, Israeli culture, and interactive activities, students learn to express themselves with clarity and ease. By the time they graduate, students are well-prepared to succeed on the Ivrit Regents exam and to converse in Hebrew during their time in Israel, whether in seminary, travel, or interactions with fellow Jewish people in Eretz Yisrael and around the world.

Seminary

We take great pride in guiding our students as they prepare for their Seminary year in Eretz Yisrael. Each student is supported in finding the seminary that best matches her personality, strengths, and goals, ensuring she chooses a place where she can grow spiritually, academically, and personally.

We walk with our students throughout the entire process, from exploring options, completing applications, preparing interviews, to helping each young woman express who she is and what she hopes to gain in her next stage of growth.
Our connection does not end with acceptance. We stay in close touch with our graduates throughout their Seminary year, offering encouragement, support, and guidance as they continue developing as proud, thoughtful, and committed Bnot Yisrael.

Mechaneches & Mentorship Program

Each student is supported not only academically, but personally. Our Mechanechet & Mentorship Program ensures that every student has a trusted adult who knows her, guides her, and champions her growth throughout the year. The Mechanechot build a relationship anchored in respect, care, and genuine understanding, helping students develop confidence, resilience, healthy self-expression, and a strong sense of identity.

Mentorship meetings provide space for reflection, goal-setting, behavior improvement, and personal development. Students explore communication skills, emotional awareness, and values-based decision-making, learning how to navigate challenges with perspective and strength. The Mechaneches also collaborates with teachers, support staff, and families to promote each student’s well-being and success.

Global History & Geography I–II (Grades 9–10): A two-year study of global civilizations, interactions, and systems, culminating in the Global Regents.
S. History, Government & Economics (Grades 11–12): Exploration of American history, civic responsibility, and economic decision-making, preparing students for the U.S. Regents and college-level inquiry.

Students begin with strong foundational skills in digital literacy, design, and productivity tools — including Microsoft Office and Canva — learning how to communicate ideas clearly and professionally. They then move into introductory coding and computational thinking, using beginner-friendly platforms to understand how algorithms, sequences, and programming logic work. SEL

Our Social-Emotional Learning program nurtures students’ confidence, emotional well-being, and interpersonal growth. Through structured SEL classes and practical skill-building, students learn to understand themselves, develop resilience, and build the habits needed to thrive in school and in life.

Our curriculum integrates Habits of Mind, the Thrive Program, and the RULER framework from the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence, teaching students how to recognize, name, and regulate emotions, communicate effectively, and respond to challenges with clarity and strength. Lessons also incorporate age-appropriate tools drawn from CBT and DBT-informed strategies such as reframing negative thoughts, grounding and calming techniques, and positive self-talk.

Creative & Performing Arts – Where creativity becomes confidence

Our Creative and Performing Arts program gives students space to express themselves, experiment, and bring ideas to life. Through visual arts, baking and culinary creativity, drama, dance, and stage production, students learn to create with purpose, confidence, and joy. These experiences foster imagination, collaboration, attention to detail, and the courage to explore new possibilities, skills that enrich learning in every area of life.

Students develop artistic skills and creative thinking through hands-on projects, guided practice, and collaborative work. Whether designing an art piece, choreographing movement, decorating baked creations, healthy nutritious event platters, or contributing to a school performance, students learn to transform inspiration into finished work.

We are committed to supporting the whole student, academically, socially, and emotionally. Our Student Support Team works closely with families, teachers, and specialists to ensure that every student has the tools, strategies, and encouragement needed to thrive.

Support services are individualized and strengths-based. We recognize that students learn differently, and we provide targeted interventions, scaffolding, and coaching to help every learner grow with confidence and independence. Through Title I services, IEP/504 coordination, and personalized Student Success Learning Plans, we ensure that students receive the instructional supports, accommodations, and progress monitoring aligned to their unique needs and goals.

We also provide social-emotional support to help students build resilience, self-awareness, coping strategies, and healthy communication skills. This may include school-based social work support, counseling referrals, or collaboration with outside mental health professionals, ensuring coordinated care and continuity between home, school, and providers.
